Psalm 2:11-13
Serve ye the Lord with fear: and rejoice unto him with trembling. Embrace discipline, lest at any time the Lord be angry, and you perish from the just way. When his wrath shall be kindled in a short time, blessed are all they that trust in him.
I often worry about my own discipline. I have trouble sticking to the smallest resolution. I have trouble maintaining a schedule. I have trouble with self mortification. I have trouble with all things requiring discipline. And yet we are called to embrace discipline so that when the just anger of God finally comes down upon us we do not perish. The only way to avoid the just wrath of God, is to do all we can to stop earning it. Only the disciplined will sow good seed and reap a good harvest. Only the disciplined will pursue goodness right to the gates of heaven and rejoice unto him with trembling.
