The Gradual for today’s mass:

The troubles of my heart are multiplied: deliver me from my necessities. See my abjection and my labour; and forgive me all my sins.

Psalm 24:17-18

That first line is so ridiculously identifiable, it’s hardly necessary to explain. Isn’t that always the case when we finally turn back to God after offending him? “The troubles of my heart are multiplied.” And then the faith required to then ask, “deliver me from my necessities”… that is bold. I mean, it’s exactly what we need in order to pursue God instead of the world, but it’s still bold.
