Lent day 13: The Second Station – Jesus is made to carry His Cross

We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee, because by Thy Holy Cross, Thou hast redeemed the world.

Meditation: Consider that Jesus, in making this journey with the cross on His shoulders, thought of us and offered for us to His Father the death that He was about to undergo.

Prayer: My beloved Jesus, I embrace all of the tribulations that Thou hast destined for me until death. I beseech Thee, by the merits of the pain Thou didst suffer in carrying Thy cross, to give me the necessary help to carry mine with perfect patience and resignation. I love Thee, Jesus, my love; I repent of having offended Thee. Never permit me to offend Thee again. Grant that I may love Thee always and then do with me what Thou wilt.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be.

Lord Jesus, crucified, have mercy on us!

Jesus embraced his cross.     If we are not in the middle of tribulation, it is easy to say that we will not complain when it comes along. We think that surely we will bear it well and offer it up. But now we are in that tribulation, that time of darkness…who are we thinking of? Ourselves. Our temporary pain and discomfort. Some misfortune. This is one fault I really need to work on – to be like Christ. While He was already bearing His cross He was offering to His Father the next cross…and for us. I need to remember in everything that I must be selfless in this manner, and also to truly know that whatever happens in life, however painful or joyous, is to the greater honor and glory of God. There is no more perfect cause than that.

Through her heart, his sorrow sharing, All His bitter anguish bearing, Now at length the sword has passed.
